"Twenty-five cents for the morphine, 10 cents for the beer..." sang fiddler Dan Thompson of New London's The Can Kickers, while Daniel Spurr plucked a banjo. "They're [Connecticut College] environmental science majors," Thompson's dad David (in the audience) said of the two Dans. "They're members of the Green Party. They voted for Ralph Nader." Drummer/washboard player/English major Doug Schaefer (in photo) held up a golf sign from the "Ben Hogan Tour" saying "Quiet Please" before one of the band's more subdued selections, then later jumped offstage, climbed the lamppost landing and smashed his washboard into pieces a la Pete Townshend.
